Good points by eveyone!
I would complain about those hijacking this thread, but I've been guilty of doing some hijacking of my own! :o)
By the way, thank you for the warm words safe4kids and slipandslidemaster.
One other thing that the lesson touched on (ozziepost and collegegirl can confirm):
The watchman had to make pronouncement's against false religion. They had to be corageous and alert.
The faithful and discreet slave, just like the watchman, need to be courageous and alert since they undertake a similar work.

Can I add an experience taken from Jehovah's Witnesses on the Web?
I found it hilarious!!!"Hello brothers and sisters. My name is Cerelia when I saw this board I had to leave a personal experience that will always remain close to my heart.
I was around 6 years old. My mother was pioneering. Her and all of us kids were out in service. All of us included: My sisters Dianna who was 7, and Juli who was 13, my older brother Michael who was 9 and My little brother who was 2 and then me.
(My mother would always take us out with her even when we where babies she would wrap us up and door to door we would go.. the good thing is she always had a partner in service..haha.)
By mid day my mother had finished her time for the month and said that we could all go in. Well we didn't want to. None of us did we kept saying, "No mom! Come on lets keep going...Just a little longer." My mother was surprised but pleased and agreed with us.
When we had finished up that day we where all happy and quite content. While driving home we remembered a little yogurt shop that was on the way, so all 5 of us began to ask mom for some yogurt. (You know using Bambi eyes ect. =) Well mom loved the idea but she said we had no money for it. Yes to admit it we where down but really were fine without it.
We came to the stop light and across the street was the yogurt shop. But we were all just talking about the day in service we just had, so we didn't notice. Then all of a sudden a women came across the street with 5 yogurts on a tray and came to my moms window...She said they where giving out some today. I can't remember the exact wording but I couldn't believe it. I mean we where in the far right lane....and here this lady came with 5 yogurts (out of the blue) and just gave them to us! It was just enough for all of us kids! My mother said thank you and excepted them! We passed them around and my mother said "Thank Jehovah kids!"
Ever since then I am always amazed how Jah cares for us and how much love he has for us. For him to take time and notice the children. It was a small blessing (just 5 little yogurts) that I would always remember."Someone then responded:
"Dear Cerelia,
What a touching experience. It is obvious you had a strong faith in the blessings from Jehovah at an early age. I remember a friend of mine telling me how when she visited Bethel, that they served icecream for dessert, and the brother who said the prayer, actually thanked Jehovah for the icecream. The simple things in life are often what we remember the most. Thanks for sharing your story.
I have always considered myself a child advocate. I work with children and I love them dearly. It angers me the way many adults seem to view children as second class citizens so to speak. It is like some people forget that they were children once. I always like to tell adults who put children off, how the greatest man who ever lived had time for children. I love to quote that account at Matthew 19: 13-15 "Then young children were brought to him, for him to put his hands upon them and offer prayer; but the disciples reprimanded them." Jesus, however, said: "Let the young children alone, and stop hindering them from coming to me, for the kingdom of the heavens belongs to suchlike ones." And he put his hands upon them and went from there."
Little wonder that Jehovah takes time and notices children as well. We all need to take time out for our little ones, and notice them as well." -

I forgot about those points. That part of the lesson really got under my skin.SYN, et al-
Your points are well taken.By the way, the conductor and the audience kept mentioning how they don't just stand in one place. They continually circle around the watchtower keeping their eyes open for trouble on the horizon.

I never heard it put in those words. I mean, I never heard it put that way to excuse false prophecies.
I've always heard 'New Light' or 'His Organization is a progressive one'.
Thank you for bringing out your past dealings with the Org. -

Your credibility is low. Nothing you said has any weight. However, you're assuming God chose the GB. Prove it to me. Until you do, your argument trying to justify it doesn't hold water. -

During the book study last night, I was really struggling to stay awake. Ironically, we were discussing the watchman who stays awake night and day.
Anyway, something was said that made me awaken and pay careful attention. Please, if anyone else who got this same information at their book study, please share it.
Here goes:
There was a picture of a man standing on the watchtower keeping on the look out. It was sunny and there was lots of sand or dirt way out in the distance. The books study conductor then asks, "What kind of watchman would you want? One that is easily distracted and lethargic or one who is attentive and alert?"The response was they wanted the attentive and alert one.
He then asks, "Who is the watchman today?"
Someone answers, "The faithful and discreet slave."
"Now, if this watchman saw dust kicking up way in the distance, even though he couldn't see what was causing the dust to stir, would you want him to sound the alarm or would you want him to wait and see until it got close enough?"
The conductor's wife answers, "We'd want him to sound it immediately even if it's a false alarm. It's better to be safe than sorry. And today, people try to say that we are false prophets because of, say, the 1914 thing. But the faithful and discreet slave were just trying to sound a warning because it could have meant the lives of those involved. So, we should appreciate that they are eager to help us, even though at times they may be wrong. They are really just trying to take precautions just in case danger may be in the horizon."
"Exactly!" (Gee! Do you think they studied together??? LOL!)
"Now, does the Society hold back from telling us any new light or new developments or do they wait for some time to pass?"
Someone comments, "They tell us immediately!"
"So, we should be happy that they love and care for the flock."
I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't want 80 and 90 year old men being my watchman!
I left my Isaiah publication at home so I will scan the lesson tomorrow.
